About Emblema
Where tradition meets comfort
Our Story
Emblema Hotel is more than a place to stay — it is a living tribute to Albania's rich architectural heritage. Built from local stone and timber using traditional techniques, every corner of Emblema tells a story of craftsmanship, culture, and pride.
Founded by a family with deep roots in the Petrela valley, Emblema was conceived not as a modern hotel inserted into a historic landscape, but as a building that belongs here — shaped by the same hands and materials that have defined this place for centuries. From the first stone laid to the last beam fitted, every decision was guided by a single principle: honour the place.

Our Philosophy
We believe that authentic materials create authentic experiences. That is why we source local stone and timber, work with skilled artisans, and let the natural beauty of Albania speak for itself. Hospitality at Emblema is not a service — it is a relationship.
This conviction extends to every part of your stay. The food in our restaurant comes from farms within a short distance of the hotel. The crafts in our rooms were made by artisans in the region. Even the herbs in your tea were gathered from the hillside. Emblema is not a themed experience — it is an honest one.

How Emblema Was Built
Every stone in Emblema's walls was quarried from the surrounding hillsides and placed by hand. The walls are thick — built to breathe in summer and hold warmth through winter — using techniques passed down through generations of Albanian master builders. No concrete. No plasterboard. Only stone, lime mortar, and time.
The timber comes from sustainably managed forests in the Albanian highlands. Beams are hand-hewn, floors are wide-plank, and every door and window frame was made by a local carpenter. Where modern craftsmen had to learn old techniques, we were fortunate to find masters who had never forgotten them.
Local Stone
Quarried from the Petrela hillsides, each stone was hand-selected and laid using Albanian masonry methods unchanged for centuries.
Highland Timber
Every beam, door, and floor plank was hand-worked from highland timber by local craftsmen preserving traditional Albanian joinery.
Traditional Methods
From the lime mortar to the dovetail joints, every technique at Emblema is drawn from Albania's pre-industrial building tradition.

Petrela, Tirana
Petrela sits 20 kilometres southeast of Tirana in a valley carved by the Erzeni river. Forested hills rise on every side, and above the village stands a Byzantine-era castle that has guarded the valley since the fifth century. Close enough to the capital for a day trip — far enough away to hear nothing but the wind and the river.
For guests at Emblema, the surrounding area offers hiking trails through the Erzeni gorge, a visit to Petrela Castle, or simply an evening walk through one of Albania's most characterful villages. Tirana — with its museums, restaurants, and nightlife — is a 30-minute drive. The mountains begin at the hotel door.
